The health benefits of matcha green tea
I did a bit of research and found that matcha tea is chock-full of health benefits:
- it is full of antioxidants
- it boosts your metabolism
- it helps your body detox
- it relaxes the body and mind

- it helps lower cholesterol and blood sugar, and
- it is full of vitamins and minerals.
Some say it has the most amount of antioxidants out of any super food, which I swear is the reason that I feel so great after drinking it.
Recipe Ingredients
- matcha tea powder- ceremonial grade matcha powder or culinary grade matcha powder work best to make this recipe.

See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
Additions/ Substitutions
- Instead of almond milk, you can use a different non-dairy milk. You can use oat milk, cashew milk, flaxseed milk, etc.
- Instead of honey, you can use maple syrup or date syrup. Using maple syrup or date syrup makes this drink Vegan. You can also use brown sugar if you prefer.
- You can add other flavors to your iced latte, such as cinnamon, cocoa powder or crushed strawberries.
Step by step instructions
One way to make matcha tea is to follow a certain method that involves a whisk of sorts. But I find that shaking everything together in a mason jar works is easier. Below is the mason jar method.
Step 1: Scoop out the matcha tea powder
Step 2: Pour the matcha tea powder into a mason jar.
I love Jade Life or Pique life matcha tea ( use code “perchancetocook” to get 5% off your first order). The color of a good quality matcha tea powder is incredibly vibrant.
Step 3: Pour hot water into the mason jar, close the lid and shake it all together.
Step 4: Add honey to the jar, close the lid and shake again.
Step 5: Add the almond milk to the mason jar, put the lid back on and shake.
Step 6: Fill the mason jar with ice, put the lid on top and give it one last final shake until all the liquid feels cold.
Recipe FAQs
If you make this recipe for one person, there are 90 calories in the full mason jar of iced almond milk matcha latte.
It is! Matcha powder is full of antioxidants. Almond milk is a great source of vitamin E and calcium. Add them together and you have a healthy drink.
I like using almond milk but you can use any milk that you like.
Yes matcha tea is healthier than regular green tea. It is said to have 3x the amount of antioxidants than regular green tea.
Ceremonial grade matcha tea is seen as a higher quality type of matcha powder. It has a brighter green color and subtle sweeter taste. It is meant to be used in hot water and to be drunk traditionally.
Culinary grade matcha powder is meant to be used in baked goods, smoothies or lattes. It tends to be less bright green and a bit more bitter in taste.
I have used both to make this latte and find that both work well and the flavor isn’t that different.

This looks so good. I’ve never tried matcha, but I would definitely give this a try. I wonder if it would be good with coconut milk, too??
I haven’t tried it with coconut milk, but I’ve tried it with regular milk and it was great. I think it would work with any type of milk. 🙂
Looks so pretty and delicious! Never thought of combining matcha and almond flavors… can’t wait to try!

Love matcha – perfect for the hot summers too
I couldn’t agree more!
I gotta say, I’m curious to know if it can provide a boost like you said, equivalent to coffee but without the jitters.
I’m a coffee nut – I always wonder if the tea scene can be as good…
You should try it! I read somewhere that a cup of matcha tea had half the caffeine as a cup of coffee. I don’t think you can feel the caffeine boost the same way with matcha, but there is no crash which is nice. I definitely notice that it helps me concentrate.
Beautiful pictures, and amazing recipe! I love iced drinks (especially with this summer heat) so I’ll be sure to try this! 🙂
Thank you! Let me know how you like it!
