I love all things matcha, from matcha blondies, to matcha popsicles, to match lattes!

This iced matcha latte is always my go-to drink in the summer because it tastes incredible, boosts my energy and is so EASY to make. It comes together in a matter of minutes. All you need is culinary grade matcha tea powder, almond milk, honey, hot water, and ice. And a mason jar! Making this drink is much easier when using a mason jar.

You will love the smooth green tea taste of this matcha almond milk latte. The almond milk makes it creamy. The matcha powder makes it smooth and zen. And the honey compliments the drink with sweetness. Delish!

Why I love this almond milk matcha latte:

  • It’s the iced version of a matcha with almond milk and it is delightful.
  • This drink is great for anyone with dairy intolerances or who loves using almond milk.
  • It is easy to make. There are no special matcha tools needed. Everything mixes together easily in a mason jar.
  • Matcha provides a zen-like energy caffeine boost without any of of the coffee caffeine jitters.
  • Matcha powder has many health benefits.

The health benefits of matcha green tea

I did a bit of research and found that matcha tea is chock-full of health benefits:

  • it is full of antioxidants
  • it boosts your metabolism
  • it helps your body detox
  • it relaxes the body and mind
  • it boosts concentration
  • it helps lower cholesterol and blood sugar, and
  • it is full of vitamins and minerals.

Some say it has the most amount of antioxidants out of any super food, which I swear is the reason that I feel so great after drinking it.

Recipe Ingredients

Ingredients needed to make an iced almond milk matcha latte.
  • matcha tea powder- ceremonial grade matcha powder or culinary grade matcha powder work best to make this recipe.
  • hot water– make sure to boil it before you make this recipe.
  • honey– any type of honey works.
  • almond milk– the brand of your choice. Make sure it is unsweetened and unflavored.

Additions/ Substitutions

  • Instead of almond milk, you can use a different non-dairy milk. You can use oat milk, cashew milk, flaxseed milk, etc.
  • Instead of honey, you can use maple syrup or date syrup. Using maple syrup or date syrup makes this drink Vegan. You can also use brown sugar if you prefer.
  • You can add other flavors to your iced latte, such as cinnamon, cocoa powder or crushed strawberries.

Step by step instructions

One way to make matcha tea is to follow a certain method that involves a whisk of sorts. But I find that shaking everything together in a mason jar works is easier. Below is the mason jar method.

What is the difference between ceremonial grade and culinary grade matcha powder?

Ceremonial grade matcha tea is seen as a higher quality type of matcha powder. It has a brighter green color and subtle sweeter taste. It is meant to be used in hot water and to be drunk traditionally.

Culinary grade matcha powder is meant to be used in baked goods, smoothies or lattes. It tends to be less bright green and a bit more bitter in taste.

I have used both to make this latte and find that both work well and the flavor isn’t that different.

    1. You should try it! I read somewhere that a cup of matcha tea had half the caffeine as a cup of coffee. I don’t think you can feel the caffeine boost the same way with matcha, but there is no crash which is nice. I definitely notice that it helps me concentrate.
