These almond flour matcha brownies are delicious green tea and chocolate infused blondies that are naturally Gluten free, Dairy free and Paleo. They come together in less than 30 minutes!
I’ve been very into matcha these days. I love a good almond milk matcha latte. And I love matcha blondies. These gluten free matcha brownies are my all time favorite matcha baked good. They have the texture of a brownie/cookie hybrid, the perfect amount of green tea and chocolate flavor, and a hint of sweetness that just hits the spot.
Plus they are refined sugar-free, refined flour free, and have the most beautiful green color.

Why this recipe works
- It’s a fun way to incorporate matcha green tea powder into your life.
- The green tea flavor isn’t overpowering, it is just right.
- It is allergy friendly. It’s great for those that have allergies to gluten or dairy.
- It works for those following a Paleo, gluten free, or dairy free diet.
- They are made with simple healthy ingredients.
- They come together in less than 30 minutes.
Recipe Ingredients
- almond flour– blanched almond flour is best for baking because it is more refined in texture.
- coconut flour– this helps absorb some of the liquid in the recipe.
- matcha powder– any good quality culinary grade or ceremonial grade matcha powder works well here. I like Jade Life matcha powder.
- baking soda– this helps the brownies rise.
- cinnamon– Ceylon cinnamon has great flavor.
- egg– this helps bind the batter together.
- vanilla– any kind with or without alcohol works.
- maple syrup– make sure to use pure maple syrup, with nothing else in the ingredient list.
- olive oil– a good quality extra virgin olive oil works best.
- apple sauce– this helps sweeten the dish and replaces some of the fat content.
- almond milk– any unsweetened unflavored almond milk works well.
- raisins– these add a nice sweetness to the recipe.
- dairy-free chocolate chips– any non-dairy brand of choice. I like Enjoy life chocolate chips or HU chocolate chips.
See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
Additions/ Substitutions
- Instead of olive oil, you can use avocado oil or coconut oil.
- Instead of almond milk, you can use any non-dairy milk of choice.
- Instead of raisins, you can add more chocolate chips. (But don’t knock the raisins until you try it)
Step by step instructions
Step 1: Mix the almond flour, coconut flour, matcha powder, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon together in a bowl.
Step 2: In another bowl, whisk the egg, vanilla, maple syrup, olive oil, apple sauce, and almond milk.
Step 3: Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix.
Step 4: Fold in the chocolate chips and raisins.
Then pour the batter into the pan and bake!
Expert Tips
- Use a good quality matcha powder to ensure the brownies turn bright green. If your matcha powder is dull, don’t use it in baking. The color will disappear or will look really muddy and blah. Make sure you use ceremonial grade or culinary match green tea powder. I like Jade Life matcha powder.
- Check on your brownies around the 20 minute mark. You don’t want to overcook them because they keep cooking in the pan once you take them out.
- If you want them gooey, cook them less. If you want them more cakey, cook them more.
Recipe FAQs
Keep them covered on the counter for about 3 days.
I depends on the size of them. I like to cut mine large and therefore they have about 250 calories in them.
It does! They both can be bitter but become sweet and flavorful with added sweetener. It is a nice treat when they come together.
